Plug To Give A Shock To Dusk’s System On Sunday
Even though the style is decades old, 90s-era alternative rock still has a place in Providence, Rhode Island’s music scene. It could be because of the nostalgia that comes with it or it could be how the quality of songwriting hasn’t faded. Plug is one of a group of acts that carry the torch these days while separating themselves with versatility. They have sound that can shift between electric and acoustic along with having a timeless essence. On July 14, they’ll be sharing the stage with fellow Providence acts Keith A/B & The Upsell and Bill Keough for a Sunday night special at Dusk on 301 Harris Ave.
The band comes from the nucleus of vocalist and guitarist Fred Galpern, his talents are best exemplified on the Block Out The Sun EP that came out on May 24. “The songs on the EP offer a perspective on the trials of young adult life and dealing with deep familial loss that can never be healed,” Galpern describes the record. “Death, despair, suicide and other fun times all inspired these songs. It was recorded over a few months in 2018 with Kraig Jordan at his Plan of a Boy recording studio in Providence. I also recorded some of it at my home studio.”
