Andrew Moon Bain has a distinct way of processing emotion through song that fuels his artistic identity. He writes music that comes from the heart whether it’s uplifting, heartbreaking or a little in between. With every song, Bain keeps it real as the co-vocalist and guitarist for the Providence soul-funk reggae rock act Boo City and more recently with his solo project Brown Bones. This new artistic venture highlights Bain’s talents as a songwriter as well as a shift towards more of a roots style. For a sensory representation, “These Old Ghosts” is being premiered on Medium today.

The song was co-produced by Ray Gennari and Bain at Rocktorium Records in the nearby Rhody town of West Kingston. During the session, Bain was joined by drummer Osi Braithwaite, bassist Rory Jackson, Sara Azriel on backing vocals and fellow Boo City members Frank Moniz on saxophone and Grayson Farmer on trumpet. Gennari also handled the mixing duties while Laurent “Tippy I” Alfred mastered the recording at Holy Man Studios in the Caribbean island of St. Croix. In the song, Bain exudes the pain that comes with the loss of a loved one. There’s also a lot of soul searching that takes place.
