Premiere: Heather Rose In Clover Embrace Powerpop With Canyons
It’s always intriguing when bands take sounds from decades ago and put their own spin on them. Providence, Rhode Island alt-rock trio Heather Rose In Clover have a knack for doing that with ’90s influenced material. What makes it a bit different is their incorporation of harmony and upbeat rhythms. It’s as if Sleater-Kinney and Belly’s music from that time period melded with ’70s powerpop like Cheap Trick and Big Star. All of this is best exemplified in their debut full-length Canyons that’s being premiered on Medium today.
“When rivers create canyons, there aren’t many straight lines involved, “ Rose says on the making of the album. “As a result, both beauty and evidence of a struggle can be found in the curves. The process of making our new album Canyons was anything but linear. It’s path can be traced through a series of fits and starts over a number of years. It’s no secret that most delays were caused by other people’s issues, but I was also still working through some of the heartache that I had harnessed to write the songs in the first place.”
