Premiere: Muddy Ruckus & The Z-Boys Shred With Split 7"
When two acts team up for a split release, there’s always some comparing and contrasting that comes along with it. The styles can be different or similar, perhaps it can embrace a certain theme. There’s an art to the split release to behold with how two groups of musicians can play off each other on a record. Newport, Rhode Island surf rock trio The Z-Boys and Auburn, Maine Americana punk duo Muddy Ruckus came together to put one out and it’s being premiered on Medium today. Both songs have a ton of energy with it being channeled in distinct ways.
“It started as a humble musical adventure, for fun, with our friend Ray Gennari of Rocktorium Records,” Muddy Ruckus drummer Erika Stahl says on the making of the split. “We recorded a few songs with him at his studio in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Ray mentioned that he was recording another band, The Z-Boys, and he thought our sound would go well together. He asked us if we’d be interested in collaborating with them on a 7” vinyl. We loved the idea so Ray set up a meeting with all of us and we got it rolling.”
Amato Zinno, who plays bass in The Z-Boys also added,” We’re really excited to be on vinyl for the first time. When we met at the Rocktorium, I hit it off quickly with Ryan [Flaherty] and Erika. It’s been fun and helpful to navigate this process together.”
