Rob’s Album Of The Week: Anthony Savino’s Good Job
Starting out in his hometown of New Bedford, Massachusetts and currently being situated in Providence, Rhode Island, Anthony Savino has grown a lot as a musician over the years. He began as the frontman for the alt-punk act Half Hearted Hero during the late 2000s and now he’s established himself as a credible singer-songwriter. There has been some slight shifts in his music, but his heartfelt approach has always been consistent. Savino’s second LP, Good Job, that’s being self-released on December 8 is abundant in melody. It’s also being officially premiered in this review column.
Along with Savino singing while playing guitar and keyboard, he’s joined by a bunch of other musicians on the album. Cheo Larcombe adds their talents on drums and percussion while A. Walker Spring serves on backing vocals and Danny Aley puts his own touch on the keys. These are just a few of the collaborators involved and it’s cool to hear so much input coming in various ways. Savino’s electric guitar has a decent amount of distortion at numerous times which supplies an edge. His acoustic six-string is also present for a couple songs and it makes for a nice balance.
Punk musicians going solo has become a big thing this decade. Most of the time it’s just the frontman with a beat up acoustic singing in a slightly lower vocal tone. It sometimes can be awesome…
