Scottish alternative rock titans Biffy Clyro have always stood out from their contemporaries due to their sonic approach. Guitarist and vocalist Simon Neil’s lyrics exude introspective expressions that give dialogue over the band’s complexities. His progressively abstract riffs also shine while bassist James Johnston and his twin brother Ben on drums set the unique & rhythmic structure. There’s also their joyous harmonies that make fans yell at the top of their lungs when they play live. This method to their music has made for a gradual evolution that has culminated in their ninth studio album, A Celebration Of Endings, that was released via Warner Records on August 14.

The album marks the trio’s first since making the soundtrack for the 2019 film Balance, Not Symmetry. They also returned to the studio with producer Rich Costey who worked the band on their previous LP, Ellipsis, that came out in 2016. There’s a ton of shredding that takes place in various tracks while a couple ballads and an attempt at a pop hit weave themselves in between. Variety has always been one of Biffy Clyro’s many strengths and this new release definitely maintains it. At its core, there’s sheer power and emphasis that unleashes itself in a consistent manner.
