Rob’s Album Of The Week: Jesse The Tree’s Space Tomatoes
Providence, Rhode Island hip hop artist Jesse Ramos is putting a new spin on the classic structures of the genre. Under the name Jesse The Tree, he spits introspective lyrics that lend commentary on various aspects of society. It could be the welfare of the planet, a fondness for a relative or just about how he has a lot of love to give. He also does it in a soulful style that exhibits an emphatic delivery. His second full-length, Space Tomatoes, that was self-released on February 6 is an excellent representation of a unique take on a timeless format that keeps things fresh.
What makes this album so great is the variety of beats. Not one track sounds similar to another one and there’s an abundance of substance. Some songs are mellow and emotional while others flow with energy and rhythm. The arrangements are stellar and refreshing, too many acts in hip hop are becoming stale these days and Space Tomatoes is an antidote. Right when the play button is hit, being bored will be the last thing on the listener’s mind.
