I’ve heard the word “visionary” being used a lot over the years. Most of the time when this term is used to describe someone, often that person is full of shit. It makes sense though, we live in a world of mostly imitators with individualism fading away much like our collective sanity. With that being said, true visionaries still exist in this world and Kaki King is one of them. The Atlanta raised and currently Brooklyn based artist continuously pushes artistic boundaries on her guitar and her ninth instrumental album, Modern Yesterdays, that was released on October 23 via Cantaloupe Music is another chapter of her sonic journey.

Using “sonic” in an article about the album might be a little misplaced. King utilizes an acoustic foundation throughout the entire record from start to finish, so amplification isn’t the priority here. It’s also her first time doing anything like this while being adorned by numerous electronic elements. There’s a ton of influences at play that range from post-classical and jazz to blues and ambient. It’s another example of how innovative King’s music is and how she’s literally limitless with her skills on guitar.

They’re saying we’re in the middle of the second wave with COVID-19, so buckle your seat belts because it’s gonna be a wild ride. The cases surely are up but at least the deaths are…
