Rob’s Album Of The Week: Liam Gallagher’s Why Me? Why Not.

Those Gallagher brothers from Oasis sure like being in the news, huh? Ever since the band broke up in 2009, it seems that every couple weeks either Liam has something awful to say about Noel or it’s vice versa. Maybe the tension will simmer when they’re both in the same room during Liam’s wedding next year, but their mother may have to be the middlelady in all of this. Noel still has his High Flying Birds but since the end of Beady Eye in 2014, Liam has embarked on a stellar solo career. The second installment, Why Me? Why Not., came out on September 20th via Warner Records and it’s part garage rock and part vintage pop while resonating an entrancing sound.

It’s not surprising that Liam hasn’t lost his swagger in both the way he writes songs and the way he sings. Each track gives a dose of coolness to the senses and by the conclusion the listener will walk around with a strut in their step. The grit from the guitars also has a big presence and it’s a vital element to the sonic excellence that’s being portrayed. There’s more of an edge than Liam’s 2017 solo debut As You Were. It shows a shift towards a harder tone that hits like a right hook to the face.

Is there really that much of a departure from what Liam did with his two former bands to what he’s doing now? Not really. His solo stuff isn’t a carbon copy either…
