Rob’s Album Of The Week: Post Animal’s Forward Motion Godyssey

Chicago’s Post Animal are one of those bands that have a knack for capturing the vintage and the modern simultaneously. They have this classic, synthy progressive rock style that harks back to 70’s bands like Yes and King Crimson. The quality of their music also fits right in with the listeners of today’s generation who dig riffs and rhythm. It’s fairly unique while also exhibiting tones that can take the mind to a different place. Their second album, Forward Motion Godyssey, that came out on February 14 via the Polyvinyl Record Company is the latest quest as part of their sonic voyage.

The new record marks a new era for the band due to them becoming a quintet due to actor and guitarist Joe Keery leaving because of his commitments to the Netflix hit series Stranger Things. That left bassist Dalton Allison, guitarist & keyboardist Jake Hirshland, drummer Wesley Toledo and guitarists Javi Reyes & Matt Williams to make even more expansive music. The result incorporates different things at different times. Some songs are funkier than others and some have a full on assault of electricity. Overall, it’s fantastic stuff that you’ll want your ears to indulge in on repeat.
