Rob’s Album Of The Week: Tash Neal’s Charge It To The Game

New York City musician Tash Neal has had a hell of life over the past 10 years or so. Back in 2012, he was in a coma due to being the victim of a car crash after a taxi cab he was in got t-boned by a drag racer in downtown Manhattan. Following a full recovery, his band The London Souls achieved a substantial amount of stardom while becoming a must-see act in underground rock. Now Neal has gone on his own with his debut solo release, Charge It To The Game, that’s due out on March 12 via Black Hill Records. The album is a mix of funk, blues, soul and R&B being channeled through a psychedelic rock & roll trip.

Along with writing all of the songs, Neal handled most of the production on the album. The Black KeysDan Auerbach also produced a couple tracks as well, which is pretty friggin’ cool. Sonically there’s a sheen that’s kind of like a disco ball, but it’s a pure rock record. It’s similar to a hot rod with a chrome exterior and leather on the interior, there’s a flair to it but there’s also an edge that keeps it honest. On top of this, Neal’s vocal range is a stunning element that makes Charge It To The Game a very unique release.
