When one thinks of Seattle music, the obvious acts come to mind. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Screaming Trees, Mudhoney and of course Nirvana and others from the city’s grunge glory days flow through the ether. What often gets forgotten by music fans is what has been going on for the last couple of decades after that era ended. The Emerald City’s scene has definitely gotten more diverse, but there are some bands that still have that angst and vigor from years past. One of those bands is The Unfit and their self-titled debut that’s coming out on June 5 via the nonprofit label Share It Music is chock full of genuine punk rock rippers.

The Unfit consist of longtime friends Jake Knuth on bass and vocals, Tyler Johnson on drums and Michael Lee and T.J. Johnson on the guitars. Together this quartet creates unbridled energy with touches of fury evident from the way Knuth sings. There are also numerous influences at play within the album. It’s a mix of art punk, old school indie rock and ’80s hardcore all rolled up into an intense, hard-hitting sound. If you’re a fan of Fugazi, Built To Spill and Black Flag, then you’re gonna love what these guys have going on.

I know that someone is going to give me shit for talking about a certain issue that’s becoming more rampant by saying “stick to the music” or some crap like that, but fuck ’em. This is my review…
