Rob’s Album Of The Week: Wild Sun’s Closed Door Talks

The power trio has a simple set up with the guitar, bass and drums, but it can be something special when the talents involved shine like stars in the night sky. Alternative rock act Wild Sun from Westerly, Rhode Island have this going on due to their seamless songs being adorned with tight rhythms and a driving sound. Glenn Thomas has a heartfelt way of creating music on guitar and vocals that evokes all kinds of feelings. Backing this up are brothers Paul and Padraic Fazio on bass and drums supplying a solid structure. The band’s second album, Closed Door Talks, came out on July 26th via Palace Flophouse Records and it’s a fine example of artistic growth in various ways.

Thomas moved to Nashville earlier this year and it definitely has had an effect on the band’s music. There’s a bit more of a twang in the album with each song having more of a folk tone. It’s doesn’t stray away from their artistic foundation, but the difference from their past material is noticeable. Sooner or later, music has to progress in some way. It seems like Wild Sun are headed in the right direction.
