Video Premiere: GA-20’s “Cut You Loose”
Boston blues trio GA-20 have become one of the best bands in New England over the past few years. They echo that timeless Chicago sound from the ’50s and ’60s while putting their own raw spin on it. Tim Carman is excellent on drums while the tone and vibe come from Matthew Stubbs & Pat Faherty’s guitars with Faherty also singing on vocals. On September 18th, they’re going to be releasing a live EP titled Live Vol. 1 via Colemine Records. In support of that release, a music video for the track “Cut You Loose” is being premiered on Medium today.
This particular song is a rendition of a classic by the same name written by songwriter Mel London and recorded by blues legend Ricky Allen. The entire thing was filmed during a live show at State Park in the Boston suburb of Cambridge and the song wasn’t even rehearsed beforehand.
“We always loved the Ricky Allen version of ‘Cut You Loose’,” Stubbs says about the making of the music video. “A buddy of ours was coming to shoot some live footage for a few other songs at the show and we decided to pull this one out at the last minute without ever having rehearsed it as a band. We were stoked with the way it came out so we had to include it on the new live EP.”
